‘Zero’ trailer: SRK’s stint as dwarf sets new romance goals as we zero in on megastar’s next

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan turned 53 on November 2, and marking the special day he released the trailer of his upcoming film Zero written by Himanshu Sharma and directed by Aanand L Rai.

This romantic drama also stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. While details about Anushka’s character were unknown till the launch of the trailer, we knew that Katrina is portraying the role of a superstar.

Now, the trailer reveals a uniquely thought out character and probably the most promising one for Anushka. She plays a wheel-chair bound personality Aafia — who appears to be pretty famous, probably a motivational speaker — suffering from cerebral palsy.

Zero‘s trailer opens with Bauua Singh (SRK) at a matrimonial office asking the officer to help him meet a woman (Anushka). Bauua from Meerut, is a vertically challenged man in search of a beautiful bride. Meeting Aafia, he falls in love, and confesses, “Aapse mohabbat ho gayi,” to which Aafia questions with a smile, “Seedhe mohabbat hi ho gayi?

What follows is a sweet budding love story, as we hear SRK say, “Ek wahi to thi jiski aankho me aankhe daal k main baat kar sakta tha…” Sounds pretty romantic right? But the following part of the video will throw you a little off track from the beautiful romantic set-up.

Uske saath hota na to zindagi barabari ki kat ti. Par zindagi kaatni kisse thi, hume to jeeni thi,” we hear SRK’s voice, and the trailer shifts gears bringing to the audience to an entirely different side to Bauua’s life.

As we see something cooking between Katrina’s superstar character and Bauua, it all falls apart as he is dumped by the actress one night, as she says, “Zero hai tu.”

Although the three-minute trailer is engaging and funny in parts, it appears to disclose a lot from the story.

Talking of the story, there are some obvious facts which one might question, as to how does a superstar engage in a relationship with a dwarf? And then again, the physical structure of an individual suffering from dwarfism is significantly different from that of an adult of average height, but Shah Rukh’s Bauua Singh looks just like a shorter squeezed up version of his usual self.

Putting aside these questions, the trailer seems to announce the oncoming of a fun movie with a fresh story line, and new kind of characters in what might be yet another complex love triangle. The trio had previously starred in Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012).

The melodious song in the trailer promises music lovers some beautiful tracks from the film.

Produced on a budget of ₹200 croreZero is by far SRK’s most expensive film, and is set to release on December 21. It remains to be seen how soon the film — which claims to celebrate the incompleteness in people — makes profit from the box office.
