New Delhi: Girls who share their emotional status on social media are more likely to become victims of cyber crime. Cyber criminals target girls with such status by first sharing or liking their status and then harassing them after the girls accept their friend requests.
An organisation, the Indian Cyber Army, has made this claim after studying 749 cases nationwide. It has been reported that 66% of girls between 15 to 24 years have faced online harassment and 43% of them have even been physically assaulted.
Young girls abused online
The highest number of abused girls have emotional status. The Indian Cyber Army has worked with police in many states. Its chairman and cyber expert Kislaya Chaudhury said that girls between 11 and 14 years are also being abused through online chatting or social media. He said this after studying various cases from January 2017 to July 2018, it was found that 62% girls of 11 to 14 years of age were abused online.
