London: Indian women’s team beat Italy 3-0 to enter quarterfinals of the Women’s Hockey World Cup on Tuesday. Lalremsiami scored the first goal in the 9th minute giving Indian women a 1-0 lead in the crucial encounter. Neha Goyal then doubled the lead in the 45th minute while Vandana Katariya sealed the deal with a goal in the 55th minute.
The Indian women reached the knockout stage on Sunday after ending their third and final Pool B match against the USA in a 1-1 draw. The draw helped India reach the cross-overs stage by finishing third in Pool B.
The Indian team will now play Ireland in the quarterfinal. Ireland defeated India 1-0 in the league match.
