Woman, minor son brutally murdered in Chhattisgarh village over suspected illicit relations

Raigarh: A woman and her minor son were brutally murdered at village Kolendra in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district.

35-year-old Hembai lived along with her 12-year-old son Kartik Verma in Kolendra village. The woman’s husband was in Gujarat in connection with his work at the time of incident.

On Monday morning, villagers spotted Kartik’s body floating in the pond. Kartik had been murdered by slitting his throat.

People went to his house to inform his mother but found the house was locked from outside. They broke into the house and found Hembai’s body lying in a pool of blood.

It is suspected the killers murdered Hembai and his son during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when there was power failure in the village. Police have launched investigations and forensic experts and a dog squad team has arrived from Durg.

Illicit relations the motive behind crime?

Hembai’s brother-in-law Santu Verma said two days back Hembai had quarrelled with a woman of the village. He alleged a youth used to visit her often and locals suspect she was having illicit relations with the youth. Hembai had a dispute with the youth’s mother.

As the youth has vanished after the incident, it is suspected he is involved in the double murder. Police have launched a hunt for the youth. Investigations are on.
