Woman lynched in Singrauli on suspicion of being a child-lifter

Bhopal: An angry mob killed a 30-year-old woman, who was reportedly unstable, as they suspected her to be a child-lifter.

The incident took place in Singrauli district late on Saturday night and the body was recovered on Sunday, sources said.

Though the incident took place in village Bhaunsa under Morba police station of the district, the body was recovered in the forest area of village Bagdad. Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Police said that the complete profile of the deceased is yet to be established. Police sources, however, said that the woman, said to be mentally unstable, was roaming in the area for past seven months.

On Saturday night, she was roaming in the village, when some people spotted her and raised an alarm claiming that she was a child-lifter. The mob later killed her, but when they realised that they had killed an innocent woman, they dumped her body in the forest.

The police said that at least six suspects have been detained. This is the latest in a series of such incidents in India.
