Why ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3’ was shot in Rajasthani haveli and not in Gujarati haveli

Mumbai: Tigmanshu Dhulia’s royal drama, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3,¬†starring Sanjay Dutt has been shot at the princely state of Rajasthan. The pink city’s beautiful havelis have played perfect backdrop for the movie co-starring Jimmy Shergil, Mahi Gill and Chitrangada Singh.

However, news is that the film was originally scheduled to be shot in Gujarat. The production designer of the film Dhananjay Mondal reveals, “We were planning to shoot at the same haveli — Baria Palace — in Gujarat where we shot Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns. But, we didn’t get the venue for some reasons and hence we picked up Rajasthan instead.”

The film is thus shot at Lalgarh haveli in Bikaner and Laxmi Nivas Palace Jodhpur. “The Bikaner haveli is shown as Sanjay Dutt’s home while the Jodhpur haveli serves as Jimmy Shergil’s home. We shot at both these loactions for 18 days,” said Mondal.

He says that shooting at a heritage property comes with its own limitations, “You cannot do any alterations to the palace as it is a heritage site. We wanted to shoot action sequences, but had to be careful about the damages. We were not allowed to show blood splattering on the wall also. Therefore we made fake walls against the real ones to avoid any mess.”

He further adds, “We made walls using sandboard and did the shoot. Once the shoot was over we removed these walls.”

Apart from the real locations, parts of the interiors of the haveli were recreated in Mumbai studios for smooth shooting purposes.
