New Delhi: If you go through your Twitter feed, you might notice a hashtag – #IstandWithAbhijit – as the top trending topic on the microblogging site.
Several people are extending their support to an Individual – Abhijit Iyer-Mitra – who was arrested by Odhisa administration – for making derogatory at the Konark temple.
Arrested over ‘derogatory comments’
Earlier on Thursday, Mitra – a Writer and defence expert – was arrested on Thursday in New Delhi by a team of Odisha Police. He was initially detained from his home in New Delhi’s Nizamuddin area and was later placed under arrest.
As per reports, Mitra was arrested over alleged derogatory comments that he made about Odisha MLAs, the Konark temple and Lord Jagannath.
“My special message to you from the Konark temple expressing my utter disgust at this monumental conspiracy against the Hindu Civilisation,” Mitra captioned the video message that he posted on Twitter on September 16.
A couple of hours after his arrest, Iyer-Mitra was granted bail by a local court. However, the court directed Iyer-Mitra to head to Odisha and join an investigation that is being carried by the police in a case registered over his comments.
Privilege motion in Odhisa Assembly
- Mitra’s arrest capital came around the same time when a privilege motion was moved against him in the Odisha Assembly.
- Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra moved the motion to summon Iyer-Mitra to the Odisha Assembly over alleged defamatory comments that he made targeting Odisha MLAs.
- Abhijit Iyer-Mitra writes several columns and op-eds, particularly on defence matters, and he is a senior fellow at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies.
