Mumbai: Producer Prerna Arora was arrested by Economic Office Wings(EOW) after producer Vashu Bhagnani claimed that she had cheated him of Rs 32 crore. Prerna had taken money from him for the rights of a film and she allegedly promised to give rights of the same film to other filmmakers too.
Prerna has been remanded to EOW’s custody till December 10. Prerna’s lawyer Advocate Ashok Sarogi says, “We are hoping to get a positive result in this case in tomorrow’s hearing. The case has been cleared in Bombay High Court. My client has not done any fraud as claimed by the other party. I will try and get a judicial custody for her. As far as multiple PAN card is concerned, she does have two cards but it is not an offence if she has not used both of them. Moreover, it is a bailable offence even if she has used it. So we will look to get a bail and I hope the result will be from our side.”
Bhagnani claimed that he had been promised the rights of Fanney Khan and Batti Gul Meter Chalu but in spite of him being on the board, Arora had got Ronnie Screwvala to distribute the film. He had then filed a case against her; the High Court had taken cognizance of the fact but did not take any action against the criminal charges filed by Vashu.
In the past, Prerna had got into controversies regarding her various productions such as Kedharnath, Batti Gul Meter Chalu, Fanney Khan and Parmanu.
