Ghaziabad: Five workers who came to clean the sewer died on Thursday in Nandagram area of Ghaziabad, near Delhi. The cause of death is said to be asphyxia. At present, the deceased have not been identified.
Local people said that the workers were cleaning the sewer without any safety equipment. After the accident, the bodies of the workers were taken out by the police with the help of the local people. The contractor fled from the spot after the incident.
Workers landed in the sewer at the behest of contractor
According to the information, all the people had come down to clean the sewer line at the behest of the contractor. A young man first landed in the sewer. When he did not come out for too long, another person landed inside the sewer. After this, the third, fourth and finally the fifth youth landed in the sewer. But nobody came out till the end.
Police took out the deceased with help of people
After this people informed the police. Police took out the deceased one by one with the help of locals. All had died by then. Police are currently trying to identify the dead and locate the contractor.
CM announces assistance of Rs 10 lakh each
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has deeply mourned the death of 5 sanitation workers during sewer cleaning in district Ghaziabad. He has asked the Managing Director of Jal Nigam to provide immediate assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and to investigate the reasons for the incident and submit the report in two days.
