Uttar Pradesh: 19-year-old files rape case with foetus in a bag

A 19-year-old woman dropped by at Hasanpur Kotwali of district Amroha on Saturday evening carrying her aborted foetus in a bag. She demanded stern action against the young man from her neighbourhood who allegedly raped her and then forced her to undergo abortion.

Both the victim and the perpetrator are Dalits and police have registered a case of rape against the 22-year-old Manoj, the accused, who is still at large.

“We have registered a case on complaint of girl’s family and raids were being conducted to arrest the accused,” said Ajay Kumar, circle officer of Hasanpur. The foetus has been sent to a forensic lab for examination, he said, as per PTI.

The victim’s mother took her to the Hasanpur Kotwali, where she told the police that the accused had raped her at gunpoint five months ago and had threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

She remained quiet due to fear before she found out that he was pregnant. She alleged that the accused then gave her some medicine for abortion on July 13. Her condition deteriorated after she took those medicines; her family members came to know about the matter on Friday after she had aborted the child.

Her mother then took her to the police station on Saturday evening where she lodged a complaint against the accused and demanded justice for her daughter.
