UP: Female participation in Congress’ internal network almost doubles post Priyanka’s entry in politics

New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s formal entry into active politics has seen over 20% jump in the membership of an internal network of Congress workers in UP in just two months, according to party leaders.

The female participation in the party has increased with Shakti membership. Women’s share of the Shakti membership has almost doubled to 40 per cent from earlier 22 per cent.

The Congress announced the formal entry of Priyanka Gandhi in politics on January 23. Following the announcement, there has been a swift rise in female participation in the party.

The members of the Congress’ Shakti Network have increased rapidly, according to the data given by the party.

The Shakti network is responsible for bridging the gap between the leaders and the grassroots party workers. The membership which earlier was 5.4 million has now crossed 6.6 million.

The Shakti network started working in June, last year. There has been a 22 per cent hike in the registration of volunteers in the last two months.

It is speculated that it is because of Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into the party that volunteers are evincing more interest in it.

It is felt the presence of a female leader in the party might be responsible for intriguing interest among the women.
