New Delhi: As you crib about poor electricity supply due to defunct infrastructure, a pan-India gang operating from Delhi is busy minting money by trading in ‘stolen’ electrical goods, which were meant for installation by various electricity boards to improve their supply.
The revelation came after the team of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) raided a godown in Delhi’s Dilshad Garden and recovered electrical goods which were allegedly black-marketed by government officials at a throwaway price. These equipment were eventually repackaged for sale to a third party at market price.
The Special Task Force (STF) in its raids has recovered transformers, several km long electricity wires of different gauges, insulators, conductors, power oil and electricity poles.
Recently, the STF had also uncovered the involvement of many government employees in similar cases of fraud across Uttar Pradesh through multiple raids.
During the raids, it was also discovered that the gang was buying goods from Rajasthan’s electricity board.
According to police, the mastermind of the Delhi operation has been identified as Yogesh Kumar, a resident of Daryaganj, who is still at large.
The investigation has revealed that Kumar was in this business for past five-seven years and has made massive profits out of it, police said.
Kumar also maintains a fleet of luxury cars, police said.
