Patna: A two-week state of indecision was over after Tej Pratap Yadav seemed to fall in line on Sunday, after his father Lalu Yadav, even from jail, indicated his uncompromising stance.
With the declaration of one last candidate for the ensuing polls, Lalu made it clear that Tejashwi Yadav, younger to Tej Pratap, remains his preferred political successor and anyone mocking his authority would not be tolerated.
After having failed to shake-up party leadership with his threats, Tej Pratap Yadav on Sunday directed a veiled jibe at his brother Tejashwi Yadav, comparing him to mythological character Duryodhan without taking his name.
Tej Pratap Yadav’s change of heart towards his younger brother comes a day after the RJD went ahead to declare its nominee for Sheohar seat, for which he was backing one Angesh Singh as his ‘choice’ candidate. The RJD will field Syed Fasal Ali from the Sheohar seat.
RJD has been facing a crisis since Lalu Yadav was jailed last year in several corruption cases. Last week, Tej Pratap Yadav had threatened to quit the party and start a new political outfit that he had provisionally named “Lalu-Rabri Morcha” after his parents.
Tej Pratap Yadav had suggested names for Jehanabad and Sheohar parliamentary constituencies. But undeterred by elder son’s threats, Lalu Yadav’s party announced that Syed Faisal Ali is Sheohar candidate.
The announcement was for Sheohar, the last of Bihar’s 40 Lok Sabha seats where the party had not announced a candidate.
While the name -Syed Faisal Ali, a journalist – was a surprise, for Tej Pratap Yadav, it was also a sign that his father would not acknowledge any of the two names he suggested for the seats of Jehanabad and Sheohar.
Tej Pratap has failed to get ticket for even a single close friend this time. He was counting on a positive decision but his last hope was dashed when the candidate for Bihar’s last seat was declared.
Family sources revealed Tej Pratap is under the influence of Sadhu Yadav, the elder brother of Rabri Devi, who once exercised tremendous power within the party, but eventually lost the support of Lalu Yadav and was thrown out.
Sources said Sadhu Yadav was trying to make a comeback through Tej Pratap. Tej Pratap had also tweeted that media reports that he was about to quit his party and join another were not true.
