Trump cancels June 12 Singapore summit with North Korea’s Kim

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]iting “tremendous anger and open hostility” in recent statements from Pyongyang, US President Donald Trump on Thursday wrote a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to cancel the summit scheduled to take place in Singapore on June 12.

The move comes a day after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told lawmakers that the historic meeting between Trump and Kim Jong-un will take place in June.

Trump’s decision was communicated Thursday in a letter to Kim released by the White House.

North Korea hardened its rhetoric toward the U.S. earlier Thursday, warning it was ready for a “nuclear-to-nuclear” showdown if the U.S. didn’t follow through on the summit.
