Mumbai: Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Thugs of Hindostan is sinking fast at the box-office. The expensive film has failed to attract audience and the result was visible on Sunday when it managed to collect just Rs 17 crore despite being a holiday.
The movie which opened on Thursday last week collected a phenomenal Rs 50.75 cr on day one, saw a huge dip on Friday with Rs 28.25 cr and went further down on Saturday with Rs 22.75 cr and Sunday with Rs 17.25 cr. Its sum total for four days stand at Rs 119 cr.
Commenting on the collections, trade analyst Narendra Gupta said, “It has had a disastrous run at the box. The word of mouth was so bad that people didn’t show any interest in seeing it. In fact, Badhaai Ho was benefited because people went for it again. Thugs had no entertainment in it and neither were the performances top notch. It will be difficult for it to reach Rs 200 crore.”
Another trade analyst Amod Mehra said, “It is a huge loss. It released at 5000 plus screens and got a great opening but the word of mouth and negative ratings killed all its chances. Many theatres have started reducing shows of the movie because the it is not running full house anymore.”
Meanwhile, reports suggest that YRF is trying their best to kill the negativity surrounding the film by getting more positive public opinions. Alas, it doesn’t look like it will be of much help.
