New Delhi: Firing a fresh salvo against the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday slammed Congress President Rahul Gandhi for his remarks over Modi’s style of beginning his speeches with chants of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and said that the Congress should be ashamed for saying such a thing which shows their “disrespect for our motherland”.
Modi’s remarks, made on the campaign trail in Sikar, Rajasthan, were reported by ANI.
“Congress has come up with a “fatwa” that I should not begin rallies with “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. How can they deny this? They must be ashamed of even saying such a thing. This shows their disrespect for our motherland,” Modi said in the rally. He was addressing a poll rally in Sikar while his opponent Rahul Gandhi made the remarks at a rally in Alwar in the poll-bound state.
The BJP-governed state is gearing up to hold an assembly election this week, and Modi wasn’t alone in canvassing voters today. Rahul Gandhi was in Alwar.
He wondered as to how PM Modi can forget the farmers if he talks of ‘Bharat Mata’ (Mother India).
“PM Modi says ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ before every speech, he should instead say ‘Anil Ambani ki jai, Mehul Choksi ki jai, Nirav Modi ki jai, Lalit Modi ki jai’. If you talk of Bharat Mata then how can you forget our farmers?” Rahul Gandhi was quoted as saying in media reports.
Rajasthan goes to the polls on December 7. Results will be declared next week, on December 11.
