This Jharkhand school serves mid-day meal prepared with contaminated water

Medininagar, Jharkhand: Children are forced to consume dirty water in Kokadu village of Medininagar district in Jharkhand. Mid-day meals in the primary school here are prepared from pit water. Moreover, children at the school get drinking water from the same contaminated pit.

BEO informed but no action taken

As river Bichhali flows at some distance from the school, its water gets collected in the said pit – which is the sole source of water for the school which has 154 children. Principal Poonam Kumari said there is no hand-pump in the school, owing to which the children collect the river water for daily use.

She further said that the Block Education Officer (BEO) has been informed about the problem, but no official has responded so far. This has led to the usage of dirty water by the school authorities – who are well aware that it is not safe for them to consume.
