Ranchi: This picture is not of a forest but of the Sersa Stadium, a stone’s throw away from the Ranchi railway station. Due to the apathy of the Railway administration, it looks like a forest, with tall grass, overgrown shrubs and trees. The ground is uneven. No one can say that it is a cricket stadium.
But Sersa has a notable history. The stadium has given India well-known cricket player Mahendra Singh Dhoni and 25 international hockey players. Dhoni practiced in the stadium for hours every day for years and before Astroturf was laid at the Hatia stadium, hockey players too used to practice there. Now, the stadium is in a state of disrepair.
About two years back, prior to the visit of the then Railways minister Suresh Prabhu to Ranchi, the GM of the Eastern Railway had visited the stadium. At that time, he had said that the Railways would convert the stadium into a museum.
