Ahead of this year’s general elections in April-May, acting finance minister Piyush Goyal rolled out the government’s last budget on Friday. The budget includes big announcements such as a major income support scheme for farmers and a new pension program for workers. It also includes a number of smaller measures that could prove popular, including tax relief for India’s lower middle class.

With bond holders, opposition parties, farm labourers, defence, being on the losing end, the budget was highly criticised by the opposition parties.
