During Dhanteras, it is a common practice for people to clean and decorate their houses. People usually buy gold, silver, jewelry and steel or copper utensils for their family, relatives and friends. Gold as an investment is the topmost preferred choice by majority of people as it is considered to bring prosperity.

The festival falls on the thirteenth day of the Kartik month, according to the Hindu calendar, and is also known as “Dhanvantari Trayodashi”.
