New Delhi: The debate on Congress missing out on formalising Priyanka Gandhi’s political presence was finally put to rest. She was appointed as Congress general secretary in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. She is set to assume charge in the first week of February.
Priyanka, 47, has been known to work in the background even before her brother was inducted as the grand old party’s chief in 2017.
Her role was confined in politics to the constituencies of her brother Rahul and mother Sonia Gandhi — Amethi and Raebareli – till now.
This announcement drew criticism from the BJP – the ruling party at the centre – that the current Congress president and Priyanka’s brother Rahul Gandhi has ‘failed’ to make any impact on political front.
As it was an eventful day in the political corridors, Twitterati were not too far behind while addressing the big announcement. The posts on the micro-blogging site ranged from quirky takes to critical reactions.
While Tweeple targeted Robert Vadra, who is Priyanka’s husband and has been on BJP’s radar for his alleged involvement in corrupt land deals, some found the development to be a positive one. A majority of people also thought that Congress’ move is in line with the dynasty politics – which has been associated with the grand old party for a long time now.
