Jaipur: Several doctors were felicitated by ministers and other politicians at an event organised by Rajasthan Medical Council on the Doctor’s Day on July 1. Medical and Health Minister Kalicharan Saraf, Jaipur MP Ramcharan Bohra, Alwar MP Dr. Karan Singh Yadav, President of BJP Medical Cell Dr. SS Agrawal and many dignitaries were present at the ceremony.
Post creates a stir
A couple of days later, on July 3, one of the felicitated doctors, Dr Mukesh Mahla, the general secretary of Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD), in a social media post, called the politicians who presented the honours ‘tapori’, fraud, and corrupt. The post was deleted a day later but it created a stir in the health department.
In the post published at 7:49 am on July 3, Dr Mahla, wrote: “What an irony, sir. Our veteran, knowledgeable doctors were honoured on Doctor’s Day by ‘tapori’, fraud, and corrupt politicians. Should this be called an honour or an insult?”
Mahendra Singh Tera, a resident doctor, commented: “Doctors are not untouched by political and power games. We feel pride in receiving petty honours from these people.”
‘Don’t know who did it’
On July 4, after the post was deleted, Dr Mahla denied having written it. He said that he had gone to his village and had no knowledge about the Facebook post, adding that it was possible that somebody had hacked his account. He also said that he had given his account password to a friend and it is possible that he had written the post.
When Medical College principal Dr US Agrawal was approached, he denied knowledge of the matter. When given details and asked if he will take action, he said that he is not going to take any action.
