Coimbatore: A racket involving a four-member gang and the dozens of women they sexually harassed and blackmailed was uncovered in Tamil Nadu’s Pollachi last month.
More than 50 women were lured and sexually harassed by a gang of 4 and the acts were videographed.
CB-CID (Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department) has now begun an inquiry into the sex racket in Tamil Nadu. Investigating team has one SP, one DSP, and 5 Inspectors. Pollachi East police have arrested four persons in this case.
Women were befriended on Facebook and then enticed by the gang and sexually exploited.
The men used to film these incidents and then threatened the victims to not report the incident otherwise they would post the video online.
However, a 19-year-old girl mustered courage and narrated her story. Subsequently, the members of the gang were arrested.
A police officer probing the case said “They harassed women in moving vehicles, hotels and even a farmhouse near Anamalai forest. The victims are from Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem and many parts of Tamil Nadu.”
Case has sparked outrage
The case has sparked outrage among politicians in Tamil Nadu with suspicions of a political link to the case.
A local member of the legislative assembly V Jayaraman denied any links to the case. It came in response to reports that his son was allegedly involved in the crime network which included the gang in question regarding this case.
