Stones thrown at martyr’s house in UP, daughter says some people want to grab her property

Ghazipur: Some miscreants stoned the house of martyr Ram Ugrah Pandey in UP’s Ghazipur district on Tuesday. A video of the incident has also come to the fore. It has been alleged that some influential people want to grab the martyr’s land.

Ram Ugrah Pandey had made the supreme sacrifice during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. He was a resident of Emavanshi village under Bhurkuda police station station in Ghazipur.

He was posthumously awarded Mahavir Chakra by the Army. A year back his wife Shyama Devi had passed away. He has a daughter Sunita Pandey, who is visually challenged.

Martyr’s visually challenged daughter alleges police inaction

Sunita has alleged that some people have been harassing her as they want to grab her property. She said they misbehaved with her and threw stones at her house.

The martyr’s daughter has alleged that she made complaint with the police on many occasions in the past but no action was taken. She said she would commit suicide along with the family if no action were taken.

Ghazipur superintendent of police Arvind Chaturvedi said there was dispute over the issue of harvesting of gram from the field. He said the accused family has denied the charges. The SP said no complaint had been received. “We’ll talk with the martyr’s family,” he added.
