Bilaspur: The Chhattisgarh High Court has upheld a lower court order directing a man to provide Rs 10,000 maintenance allowance to his stepmother.
The court has held the stepmother is also entitled to receive maintenance allowance. The petitioner has also been ordered to pay fine of Rs 2000.
The 76-year-old woman who is a widow had filed a case alleging her stepson Uttar Kumar, a teacher in a government school, was not taking care of her.
Earlier a tribunal had ordered Uttar Kumar to provide Rs 10,000 maintenance allowance to his elderly mother. But he filed an appeal against the order.
The Chhattisgarh High Court dismissed his appeal and also imposed fine of Rs 2000 on him.
