She began her journey as an actress in Bollywood with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007. From there on, Sonam Kapoor has been a part of films like Neerja, Raanjhanaa, Khoobsurat. However, father Anil Kapoor revealed that Sonam always wanted to become a director.
Anil Kapoor said this at the launch of Changemakers, a book by journalists Mallika Kapur and Gayatri Rangachari that captures the stories of 20 women working behind the camera in Bollywood cutting through the ranks of the traditionally male dominated industry.
Talking about his daughter’s aspirations, he said, “When she came back (from abroad), she wanted to become a director, which is why she started off assisting (Sanjay Leela) Bhansali.”
However, in a recent interview, Sonam mentioned that she has a few scripts which she is looking at as a director. In the interview, she also said that in a couple of years she will be ready to helm a film and that she would like to continue working as an actress and also as a director.
