Gandhinagar: BJP president Amit Shah will file his nomination papers from Gandhinagar on Saturday. Other top leaders of the party as well as several members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will accompany him.
Amit Shah replaced Advani as the BJP candidate from Gandhinagar, the seat represented by the party veteran for six terms. Shah, who is a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), is contesting the Lok Sabha polls for the first time.
Before filing his papers, he will address a huge election rally in Naranpura area of Ahmedabad, followed by a roadshow which will start from DRH Regency hotel and culminate at Patidar Chowk in Ghatlodia area.
Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh will accompany Shah for the roadshow and when he files his papers. Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan and BJP’s national general secretary Ram Lal too will be present.
Advani will not be present
The presence of top NDA leaders on the occasion is being viewed by political observers as a show of strength for Shah and an acceptance of him being the second most influential leader in the coalition after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, BJP veteran LK Advani, who currently holds the seat and has been denied ticket by the party,, will be conspicuous by his absence.
Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani said the four-km road show will begin from Sardar Patel Statue in Naranpura area of Ahmedabad and culminate at Patidar Chowk in Ghatlodia.
