Mumbai: The BSE benchmark Sensex Friday jumped over 100 points ahead of the Budget presentation by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal amid heavy buying by foreign portfolio investors.
The 30-share index was trading 119.01 points, or 0.33 %, higher at 36,375.70. Similarly, the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 34.15, or 0.32 %, to 10,865.10.
On Thursday, the 30-share Sensex rallied 665.44 points, or 1.87 %, to close at 36,256.69; and the broader Nifty soared 179.15 points, or 1.68 %, to 10,830.95.
Share Market Highlights Budget 2019-20
- Bharti Airtel shares were the top gainers among the Sensex shares on Friday even after India’s second-largest telecom company posted a 72 % fall in the Q3 net profit. The stock of Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel surged as much as 4.33 % to Rs 320.45 on BSE today.
- Vedanta shares took the massive beating on Friday after company’s Q3 profit fell 21 % on the shutdown of copper smelter at Tuticorin. Vedanta shares were the top losers among all the components of Sensex and Nifty today. Vedanta share price crashed 19.82 % to Rs 158.35 on BSE today.
- Other than Bharti Airtel, shares of HCL Tech, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Bajaj Finance, HUL, HDFC, Reliance Industries, L&T and Infosys were the lead gainers among Sensex shares today while apart from Vedanta, stock of Sun Pharma, ONGC, Power Grid, Tata Steel and ICICI Bank were the top laggards.
- Shares of HDFC, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Infosys and Maruti Suzuki were the biggest positive point contributors to BSE Sensex today.
