New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed an order of Madras High Court awarding 196 grace marks to those NEET students who had opted to write the test in Tamil on account of error in translation.
The top court said it appears that after the judgment of the Madurai Bench of the high court, the students who had opted for Tamil, are in an advantageous position over others.
A Bench of justices SA Bobde and L Nageswara Rao stayed the order, and issued notice on a plea of the CBSE.
The HC had ordered CBSE to award four marks each for 49 questions that were wrongly translated in Tamil. It had also ordered CBSE to draw a revised ranking list.
Hearing in two weeks
- The SC Bench posted the matter for hearing after two weeks.
- It asked the parties to come out with a solution to deal with the situation.
- The Bench said, ‘We cannot dole out marks in this fashion’.
- The Bench said it may make a committee of experts in the language, so that the same situation does not arise next year.
