Salman film frees Punjab farmer from debt

Ludhiana: It was windfall for him. Surinder Singh of Ballowal village in Ludhiana district of Punjab had never thought that his small piece of farm land would yield him such a huge income – and that too without doing anything.

When he received the proposal to allow shooting of Salman Khan-starrer Bharat on one killa (approximately 5,00 square metres) of his land, he could not believe his ears. The rent offered was Rs 65,000 for three weeks. Then, he was asked to rent out another 4.5 killas for the same purpose for Rs 3 lakh.

Debt cleared

Once he agreed, sets for the shooting were built on the land and the decided amount was paid to him. He used Rs one lakh from the amount to repay all his debts. “I will keep the remaining money safe for spending on education of my 14-year-old son Balkaran Singh and 12-year-old daughter Prabhjot Kaur”, he said.

“I am a simple farmer. I don’t know what they saw in my land that they chose it for shooting,” he says.
