Mumbai: The 33-year-old Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha did not make into the squad for the upcoming one-off Test match against Afghanistan, owing to a thumb injury.
While playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL, Saha had sustained injury to his right thumb at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 14.
The BCCI medical team confirmed the news and said that Saha has been rested ahead of the upcoming Test series against England.
“He was under observation by the medical staff of the BCCI and the management has decided to give him adequate rest before the start of the England Test series. Saha’s recovery period is expected to be around five to six weeks,” the BCCI said.
Following decision on Saha, the All-India Senior Selection Committee has called in Dinesh Karthik as Saha’s replacement for the lone Afghanistan Test.
Afghanistan will play the inaugural one-off Test match against India, beginning June 14 in Bengaluru.
