Railways spent Rs 30 crore on printing booklets; money goes down the drain as Code of Conduct comes into force

Jodhpur: The railways suffered loss of Rs 30 crore after the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct on Sunday evening. The railways had spent the amount on the printing of booklets and brochures.

The railways had published the booklets in 14 languages for distribution in all the states of the country. The aim was to publicise the works done during the five-year tenure of the BJP government. The cover page had the photo of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The printed material was sent from Delhi to all zonal headquarters and from there it was forwarded to the offices of divisional railway managers (DRMs). The bundles reached the DRM offices on Sunday evening and the Election Commission announced poll schedule soon afterwards. Top railway officials have now declined to distribute the booklets as Code of Conduct has come into force.
