New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attended her first meeting of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Thursday, wherein she was seen sitting far away from her brother and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.
Sitting next to her instead was Jyotiraditya Scindia, general secretary in charge of western Uttar Pradesh. News agency IANS quoted political observers as saying that Priyanka Gandhi was allotted a seat away from Rahul Gandhi for a very good reason.
They believe that it was a move to let senior party leaders know that they, as All India Congress Committee secretaries, were as important as she.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was appointed as the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) in January.
Next week, on February 11, she will begin campaigning in Uttar Pradesh. With 80 Lok Sabha seats up for grabs, the battle for this Hindi belt state is one of the most consequential in a general election.
A Lucknow roadshow is scheduled for February 11, and Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia — the general secretary for Uttar Pradesh West — will take part.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra has been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate for two consecutive days. The Congress blames it on Prime Minister Narendra Modi being “blinded by revenge”.
“Prime Minister Modi is taking out his anger due to the imminent defeat in the upcoming polls,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said.
