This is why Patna has banned import of fish from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh

Formalin and other heavy metals have been found in fish arriving from these states

Patna: The Bihar Health Department has banned the sale of fish coming from Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal for 15 days in Patna municipal area, as formalin and other heavy metals have been found in fish coming from both the states, informed the Health Department.

This decision has been taken after confirmation of these hazardous chemicals in fish samples. The government of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal will be informed in this regard, but until then, there is a ban on the sale of fish coming from outside in Patna. Anyone found disobeying the ban will face action under the Food Safety Act.

Legal samples will be taken from Purnia, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Gaya as well. An expert team of the animal husbandry department will collect the samples. Further action will be taken after the report of the legal samples arrives.
