Pakistan has demanded the United Nations withdraw the status of Goodwill Ambassador of Peace given to Priyanka Chopra. Pakistan Human Rights minister, Shireen Mazari, said that Priyanka is openly supporting the nuclear war. In such a situation, the credibility of the status of UNICEF is getting dented. However, Bollywood is with Priyanka on the matter. Lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar and actor Ayushman Khurrana said that Priyanka is a true representative of India.
Mazari had tweeted the letter: Dr. Shireen Mazari shared a copy of the letter sent to UNICEF on her Twitter handle on August 21. In this letter, the BJP government has been compared to Nazism. At the same time, Priyanka Chopra has been described as a supporter of the threat of nuclear attack given to Pakistan by the Indian Defence Minister.
Priyanka supports the nuclear war – Shirin: In the letter sent to the UN, Mazari said the current serious situation in the India-acquired Kashmir (IOK) is due to the violation of all international agreements by the Modi government. Priyanka’s staunch nationalism supports the violation of international agreements by the Modi government, the UNSC resolution on Kashmir. Her support for war and nuclear war dents the credibility of her status in the UN.
Bollywood came in support
Ayushmann said that she is a good representative of the country: National Award winner Ayushmann Khurrana has supported Priyanka. He said- I think Priyanka Chopra is representing our country properly. They are global icons, not just Indians. Being the daughter of an army officer, she is representing the country properly.
Javed Akhtar also supported: Lyricist Javed Akhtar spoke to Priyanka’s support during an event in Kolkata. He said- I know Priyanka personally. She is cultured. Is well educated, and is also an Indian. She or any Indian other than her will certainly think like an Indian for his or her country.
Kangana also praised Priyanka: Kangana Ranaut, who worked with Priyanka in the fashion film, also praised her. Kangana said- It is not easy to choose any one thing, especially when you are stuck between your duties and feelings. As a Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF, you cannot keep your identity tied to any one country. But how many of us listen to the heart instead of the brain.
Madhur Bhandarkar, who directed her in Fashion (2008) says, “Priyanka is an Indian, and there’s nothing wrong in praising our country… or wishing the Armed Forces.”
Director Ali Abbas Zafar, (whose film Bharat she quit to get married) has been “out of touch of these things”, he says “it sounds silly.” Echoing the sentiment, director Anil Sharma says, “My suggestion to them is not to meddle with India’s affairs and and not target our artists, but focus on making the lives of their people better.”
Lyricist Javed Akhtar told a news agency that if Priyanka’s “comments have upset the Pakistani establishment, they can do whatever they wish”.
Indians on Twitter too vociferously backed their Desi Girl. “A whole country is trying to pull down one girl. This is called Women Empowerment. #PriyankaChopra,” wrote @says__Anurag. “I am shocked to know that Pakistan has a Ministry of Human Rights,” commented @mishra_percy.
