Now, vehicles carrying EVMs in Punjab to be fitted with GPS

Ludhiana: The Election Commission (EC) is taking firm measures to ensure the safety of electronic voting machines (EVMs) this time. Now, all the vehicles carrying EVMs will be fitted with GPS system and the officers would be able to track the movement of the vehicles. 

If the vehicle stops at any place then an alarm would start ringing at the Election Commission office. Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer SK Raju gave this information.

CEO Raju said 6000 booths of Punjab are sensitive. CCTV cameras would be fitted inside the booths. This time self-diagnostic EVMs will be installed. If there is any problem in the machine then an alarm fitted in the machine would go off. The returning officer would change the machine. 

Raju said this time there would be 2.50 lakh first time young voters in Punjab. He said all the EVMs are being checked and mock polling is being done.
