Now, PM Modi launches ‘Mai Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign for 2019 Lok Sabha elections

In run-up to general elections, BJP has launched a new campaign to counter Congress’s ‘Chowkidar Chor hai’ jibe.

Referring to himself as ‘chowkidaar’ PM Modi tweeted a video saying he is standing firm and serving the nation. The PM further said that he is not alone and added: “everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, and social evils is a Chowkidar.”

This poll strategy is similar to the 2014 BJP campaign when the saffron party incorporated Congress leader Manishankar Aiyar’s Chaiwalla jibe into a mass campaign.

As per the reports, BJP strategists decided to launch ‘Mai Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign after carrying out extensive surveys powered by data analysis as the party feels that this would be appropriate to counter Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ jibe. The BJP claims that as per the survey people are angry with Rahul’s jibe.

PM Modi will also interact with people from across the country on March 31 as part of the campaign.

Announcing the dates for the polls the Election Commission had said that the Lok Sabha polls will be held in 7 phases from April 11 to May 19 and the counting of votes in 543 constituencies will start on May 23.

PM Modi, who represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha, has decided to contest from the holy city again. As per media reports Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad “Raavan” will also contest from Varanasi.

Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly hurled the “chowkidar chor hai” jibe at PM Modi to claim irregularities and favouritism in the Rafale deal. “Gali gali mein shor hai, Hindustan ka chowkidar chor hai (There is noise everywhere, the country’s guard is a thief),” Gandhi has often said at public rallies.
