Now, hostel facility for cows in Delhi

Delhi government has asked Animal Health and Welfare Policy to provide a better environment to birds and animals.

New Delhi: The Delhi government is all set to provide hostel facility for cows. The bovines would be looked after and all facilities would be available for them at the hostel. The cow owners will have to pay charges for the same. The animal husbandry department officials will hold talks with concerned departments to decide workings of the said hostels.

Stray animals to be fitted with chips

Minister Gopal Rai said the Delhi government has notified Animal Health and Welfare Policy-2018. The aim is to provide better environment to birds and animals. There is provision to fit stray animals with micro-chips. This would enable officials to take action against people who allow their animals to roam free on streets. It is yet to be decided who would fit the chips and how.

Other proposals

  • Name of animal husbandry department would be changed to animal health and welfare
  • A gau shala (cow shelter) as well as home for elderly people would be built over 18-acre land at Ghumman Heda village. This would allow elderly people to take care of the cows.
  • Round-the-clock medical facility would be available for birds and animals. A hospital would be launched under a pilot project on January 16 near Tis Hazari.
