New Delhi: Nirbhaya gang-rape convict Vinay Sharma has now made a new plan after all legal options to avoid hanging have been exhausted. His lawyer AP Singh filed an application in the Patiala House Court on Thursday. In this, Vinay has described himself as mentally ill and suffering from schizophrenia.
The lawyer told the court that Vinay could not recognize even his mother and lawyer when he went for a meeting in Tihar on Wednesday. In the previous hearing, the lawyer had said that Vinay is on a hunger strike and his mental condition is not well.
Vinay has also stated in the application that he has a serious head injury and fracture in the right arm. Therefore, he should be admitted to IHBAS Hospital for a high-level medical examination. The lawyer demanded a directive to the Tihar Jail Administration for this. The court has sought a report from the jail authorities on this. The next hearing will be on 22 February.
Vinay injured himself, doctors bandaged his head: Vinay tried to injure himself on Saturday by slamming his head in a tight security cell in Tihar. Seeing his actions, the security personnel who arrived there saved him from getting seriously injured. According to the information, after the incident, the doctor was called from the jail hospital in his cell. The doctor bandaged his head. Vinay has earlier attempted suicide in jail.
Tihar administration increased security of all the culprits: Jail Director General Sandeep Goyal said that Vinay had suffered a minor injury. Security personnel can also be deployed inside Vinay’s cell if needed. At present two personnel are deployed for the security of each convict. After the incident, the security of all convicts has been increased.
Culprits to hang on March 3: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition challenging President’s decision to reject the mercy petition. On February 17, the Patiala House Court issued a third death warrant of all four accused. Accordingly, the hanging date has been fixed on March 3 for Vinay, Mukesh, Akshay and Pawan.
