Nepal Accident/ Bus carrying pilgrims plunges into gorge in Sindhupalchowk dist; 14 killed, dozens injured

Kathmandu: At least 14 people were killed and dozens of others suffered injuries in a bus accident in Sindhupalchowk district on Sunday. The deceased include three children.

The accident took place on Sunday morning when the bus skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge along the Dolakha Khadichaur-Jiri road section.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.

The bus was ferrying the pilgrims back from Kalinchowk Temple. The casualties are likely to increase, informed police.

District police spokesman Ganesh Khanal said, “12 passengers died on the spot. Two died in the hospital. The injured are undergoing treatment. The driver escaped from the spot after the accident, while the condition of the cleaner is critical.”

22 thousand people lost their lives in 10 years:According to Nepal Police, in the last 10 years, the number of people who lost their lives in road accidents has crossed 22 thousand. Road accidents have increased over the years due to poor roads and poor passenger vehicles.
