Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Boxing Academy’s Divya Pawar clinched a yellow metal in the final of 36th Golden Glove of Vojvodina Youth Tournament played in Subotica, Serbia. The 18-year-old is the only boxer from MP to secure a yellow metal in the same championship. Pawar has now become a strong probable for 2020 Olympic Games in the 54kg weight category.
She proved a difficult opponent for local star Dajana Grumusa as the Indian out-punched her way and kept increasing the lead round after round in 54 kg class in the final round. In the semifinals, Divya (54kg) took less than two rounds to force Russian Mariia Med out of the competition. Indian youth pugilists took Serbia by storm when they struck 17 medals, including seven gold and six silver, the best haul in recent times at the 36th Golden Glove of Vojvodina in Subotica, Serbia.
