[dropcap]R[/dropcap]ohit Sharma may have been christened as the hitman and Virat Kohli may be touted as the greatest batsmen of contemporary times. But in the hindsight, it was experienced batswoman Mithali Raj sending bowlers on a leather hunt in the shortest format of the game. The former Indian women’s skipper smashed back-to-back fifties to become India’s highest run-getter in T20 Internationals.
She achieved the milestone in the game against Pakistan handing India a comfortable 7-wicket win against the arch-rivals in the ongoing Women’s T20I World Cup.
She scurried past the record held by Rohit Sharma. Now, Mithali has an average of 37,42 in 80 innings while Rohit has scored 2207 in equal number of appearances.
Interestingly, there are two women in the top-five list of Indians. Women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is sitting pretty at the fourth spot after Mithali, Rohit and Virat Kohli.
But, on Thursday, she played a rather sensible half-century knock against Ireland to book a place for India in the semifinals of the marquee event. However, the Twitteratti lambasted her for playing a rather slow knock in a format which requires some brisk scoring.
Mithali, while expressing her resentment tweeted, “Love to come back here for feedback. Extremely happy to see people understanding cricket. To notice a slow wicket, tough conditions – things that only experts would speak of. Hoping for better weather at the Semis & a thrilling game! #INDvIRE #
