Militant killed in Sopore encounter; cordon and search operation continues

Srinagar: Two militants were gunned down after an encounter broke out with security forces on Friday in Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesman told reporters.

The troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on a specific information about the presence of the militants in Watergam area of Sopore, said a police official.

“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing gunfight,” police sources added.

A militant was killed and the operation was going on when the reports last came in. Security forces killed two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in an encounter in Lolab area of frontier district of Kupwara on Thursday.
