Mika Singh detained in UAE for sending obscene messages to model

New Delhi: Bollywood singer Mika Singh has been arrested in Dubai for allegedly sending objectionable pictures to a 17-year-old Brazilian model. He also promised her a job in a Bollywood movie, Gulf News reported quoting sources. The ‘Subah Hone Na De’ hitmaker was last seen on stage at a Bollywood awards ceremony followed by a performance at a private party.

The girl, reports say, has accused Singh of sexual misconduct. As per reports, he is likely to be produced in a court on Sunday. The controversial singer has been questioned by the local authorities, a member of his team told news agency ANI.

Singh has sought consular access and the embassy staff is working on his case, Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri was quoted as saying in the report. “Our team is at the police station. We are working on it,” he said. Singh has been reportedly kept at the Muraqqabaat police station.

Meanwhile, official sources in New Delhi said that Singh was detained at 3 AM and legal proceedings were being initiated against him.

This is not his first brush with the law. In 2016, a Mumbai-based model had filed a complaint of molestation against Singh. The singer had lodged a counter-complaint alleging extortion. A year before that, Singh was arrested and released on bail for allegedly assaulting a doctor during his concert.

A few years back, he was also arrested at the Mumbai airport for allegedly carrying Indian and foreign currency beyond permissible limit. Singh is one of the most popular singers in Bollywood known for singing various dance numbers. In 2006, actress Rakhi Sawant had alleged that Singh had forcibly kissed her at his birthday party.
