Madhya Pradesh/ Students clash at MITS in Gwalior, hurl stones, vandalize campus

Gwalior: There was a huge furore between hosteller and day-scholar students of Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) Gwalior on Wednesday afternoon. Police arrived on the spot and cane-charged the students to control the situation.

Police removed students from the classes and got the campus vacated. The commotion went on for about two hours. Police of Gole Ka Mandir police station have registered a case of assault against four students. At the same time, 11 students have been suspended after the meeting of the Proctorial Board and Discipline Committee.

Some girl students were allegedly molested: The reason for the dispute is being told that some girl students were molested, although the girls denied this in front of their parents.

Day-scholar students waylaid, thrashed: In the institute at 1 pm, BE second-year day-scholars Ankit Lohia and Nikunj were moving out of the campus along with some other students, while Saurabh Patel, Manav Pathak, Sankalp Kannaujia, Mohit Bhuria, and their companions surrounded them and started thrashing them. During this time, two girls were also assaulted. Students of the hostel escaped after the assault.

Both groups hurled stones at each other: Day-scholar students started demonstrating against the incident. Even after half an hour, the management did not take any action. The peeved students smashed the glass on the gate on the campus. After this, they reached the hostel. Here both groups hurled stones at each other.

Student held captive, beaten up: After the stone pelting, the day-scholar students returned but one of their companions BE second-year students Ashish Lalwani was taken hostage by the hostel students and beaten up.

As soon as the day-scholar students learnt about this they started vandalizing the campus. Meanwhile, the additional police force reached and controlled the situation by resorting to lathi-charge. Then the hostage student was freed.
