Madhya Pradesh/ Pair of young lions will reach Bhopal’s Van Vihar on 18 from Bilaspur’s Kanan Pendari Zoo

Vandana Shroti, Bhopal: 4-year-old lion pair Satya (male) and Nandi (female) will reach Van Vihar by Saturday from Kanan Pendari Zoo in Bilaspur. Zoo Ranger SC Sharma said that their mother is the same and her name is Varsha. They have got the green signal from the Central Zoo Authority to bring them to Van Vihar.

According to Van Vihar deputy director AK Jain, director Kamalika Mahanta and veterinarian Atul Gupta would examine them on arrival. Right now there are 4 lions in Van Vihar and they are around 18 years of age. In Van Vihar, lions from different parts are being brought for lion safari and breeding programmes.

Constantly increasing number: Bilaspur Zoo Ranger Sharma said that there are 12 lions in the zoo. The total number of big cats (lion, tiger, leopard) is 32. Due to their breeding, their numbers are increasing in the zoo. This is the reason why we have decided to give a lion pair to Bhopal’s Van Vihar, he said.
