Bhopal / Bhind: In Madhya Pradesh, the issue of farmer loan waiver repeatedly comes to the fore. This time the state’s Cooperative, Parliamentary Affairs, and General Administration Minister Govind Singh has given clarification on the allegations over not waiving farmers’ loans. Govind Singh, who arrived at the farmer loan waiver programme in Mehgaon, Bhind on Friday, said, “Rahul Gandhi had said that after forming the government, we will waive farmers’ loans up to Rs 2 lakh in 10 days, but we could not. The opposition says that we have betrayed farmers. I want to say that the situation is difficult so there is a delay in getting the loan waiver.”
Shivraj government held responsible for situation: State General Administration Minister Govind Singh blamed the then BJP’s Shivraj government for not the current Congress government’s inability to waive the loans of farmers. Singh alleged that the BJP government had left the state in huge debt, due to which the present government could not fulfill its promise on time. In a government programme, he said, ‘The financial condition of the state is not good, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan left the state in huge debt’.
Rahul Gandhi’s promise to farmers in 2018: Rahul Gandhi promised to waive farmers’ loans of up to 2 lakh during the assembly elections in December in 2018, within just 10 days of coming to power. He even said that if his party’s government could not fulfill the promise in 10 days, then the Chief Minister would be changed. Now the same promises and claims have become a problem for the party.
More than 26 thousand farmers in Bhind district benefited: Minister Dr. Govind Singh said that effective implementation of Jai Kisan Crop Loan Waiver Scheme is being done in the state. The first phase of this plan has been completed. In the first phase, 26 thousand 477 farmers of Bhind district have benefited. Their loans of Rs 86 crore 69 lakh have been waived. He informed that in the second phase of Jai Kisan Crop Loan Waiver Scheme, to date, loans of more than Rs 27 crore 86 lakh of 3998 farmers have been waived in Bhind district. Minister Dr. Govind Singh said that today the crop loan of more than 15 crores of total 2198 farmers of all the tehsils of the district was waived.
