Madhya Pradesh/ From April 1, Anganwadi children will get eggs thrice a week; those who do not eat eggs will get fruits

Bhopal: The state government will distribute eggs to children as nutritious food in all Anganwadis from April 1, 2020. About 10 lakh children between one and six years and pregnant and lactating women will be given eggs three days a week. Any child or woman who does not want to eat eggs will be given fruits of the equivalent value. The state government has given administrative approval to this proposal.

BJP had opposed giving eggs to children: Rs 113 crore will be spent annually on this scheme of Women and Child Development Department. The department will now send the file for the sanction of the budget to the finance department. It is noteworthy that BJP had opposed the distribution of eggs in Anganwadis, after which the proposal was stuck with the government.

Govt plans to get eggs from MP itself: Department is trying to get eggs from MP itself. Zones can be made for this so that fresh eggs could be supplied to the Anganwadis immediately. A separate draft will be prepared for the vendors.

Study of supply system in other states: On Tuesday, Women and Child Development Minister Imarti Devi asked the officials to study the egg supply system in other states as soon as possible and prepare a draft. Logistics regarding the storage of eggs along with transport and supply will be finalized by next week.

Eggs being given to children in these states: Eggs are given to children in many states including Assam, Bihar, Maharashtra, Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura, and Uttarakhand.
