Madhya Pradesh Floods/ Clouds can wreak havoc, heavy monsoon rains to continue, IMD issues red alert for 14 and orange alert for 19 dists

  • Pilgrims did not arrive in Omkareshwar due to heavy rains, floods in the capital Bhopal this morning
  • A wall fell over a congregation performing bhajan kirtan in Rahli, two women dead, four serious

Bhopal: Torrential rains continue in most of the districts of the state. The rivers and streams are in spate in rain-affected districts. 

Bhopal-Jabalpur road has been closed due to opening of eight gates of Barna Dam in Raisen. Narmada is in spate at Mandla. Jabalpur to Dindori and Seoni route has been closed. 

The day-long rainfall continued in about 25 districts of the state including the capital on Thursday. The Meteorological Department has issued red alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall) in 14 districts and orange alert (heavy rain) in 19 districts for the next 24 hours.

Instructions have been given to the authorities to take extra vigil in the districts that have been issued warnings. Here, the Meteorological Department says that 14 districts with red alert may receive the heaviest rains this season.

Red Alert – Heavy to very heavy rainfall: Dhar, Indore, Jhabua, Khandwa, Khargone, Alirajpur, Betul, Hoshangabad. Harda, Dewas, Rajgarh, Sehore, Vidisha and Sagar. (Total 14 Districts)

Orange Alert – Heavy rains: Agar, Anuppur, Dindori, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, Chhatarpur, Panna, Damoh, Guna, Ratlam, Shajapur, Bhopal, Raisen and Rewa. (Total 19 Districts)

Villagers saved the life of the girl: Due to negligence, a girl and her family faced grave threat to their life on the Ajnal river of Ramnagar in Sehore district. Even after there was water on the bridge, the driver tried to cross the river, but as soon as the car reached the torrent, it was swept away. The villagers ran and grabbed the car and tied a rope to it. First the student was taken out of the car and then the car was pulled out with the help of a rope.

Two women die in wall collapse: During a Ganeshotsav in Bamurakunj village of Rahli, a wall suddenly fell on a mandli performing bhajan kirtan. Two women from the congregation died from being buried under the rubble. While 4 women were seriously injured. The injured also included another person. TI Ramavatar Chauraha said that Munni Bai (50) and Mulabai (75) died after the wall collapsed.
