Jabalpur: A farmer was axed to death in Panagar police station area of the Jabalpur district in Madhya Pradesh by another farmer after he caught the accused stealing tomatoes from his field.
The accused threw the body of the victim in the neighbouring field, which was recovered Wednesday morning.
Trainee IPS and Panagarh police station in-charge Ravindra Verma said that the field of Rajendra Patel (40), resident of Tagar Mehgavan village, is close to the village.
He had grown tomato, bottle gourd and cucumber in his farm. Close to his field is the field of accused Chakresh Patel (32) who had sown tomatoes.
While Rajendra’s crop grew very well, accused Chakresh’s tomato crop had not grown well.
Victim saw accused stealing tomatoes from his farm
Rajendra went to see his crop after dinner on Tuesday night. When he reached the farm, he saw Chakresh stealing tomatoes from his farm.
Rajendra caught Chakresh and informed his (Rajendra’s) family in this regard. He told the family that he was coming home with Chakresh.
But when after some time Rajendra did not come back, his family members went to the field looking for him where they saw Chakresh working in his farm.
Missing person complaint lodged
Asked about the tomato theft and Rajendra’s whereabouts, Chakresh denied of any such happening. Rajendra’s family reached the police station and registered a missing complaint.
In the morning, Rajendra’s body was recovered from the farm attached to the field of Chakresh. He was hit with sharp-edged weapon on the back of his head. Police took Cakresh Chakresh into custody on the basis of suspicion.
Accused confesses crime
During Police interrogation, Chakresh confessed to having committed the crime. He told that Rajendra had caught him while stealing tomatoes from his farm.
Following this Rajendra started abusing and beating him. Angered over this, Chakresh attacked him with an axe in the back of the head leading to his death on the spot.
